World Elephant Day 12 August

World Elephant Day 12 August

To celebrate World Elephant Day, the learners enjoyed the delightful story of Elmer, the much-loved patchwork elephant created by David McKee. Elmer’s colourful appearance and message about celebrating individuality provided the perfect inspiration for a range of creative and educational activities.

The learners were given elephants to colour and encouraged to move away from traditional grey, using bright and imaginative colours to create their own unique elephants. Elephant-related terminology was also introduced, with words and facts incorporated into the learners’ colourful artwork.

The celebrations culminated in a collaborative recycling project. Using plastic bottle tops, the learners created their very own patchwork elephant – a wonderful reminder of Elmer and the beauty of individuality.

Through storytelling, art and hands-on creativity, World Elephant Day became an opportunity to learn about these magnificent animals while encouraging imagination, self-expression and environmental awareness.
