The Right Book, For The Right Child, At The Right Time

Sometimes all it takes is one book to change a child’s relationship with reading.

A Grade 4 learner has discovered exactly the right book for her in Andrew Matthews’ retellings of Shakespeare for children. While many children are still finding their way into the world of books, she has eagerly immersed herself in these timeless stories, discovering the excitement of great storytelling and the joy of reading.

When asked why she enjoys them, she smiled and said, “I like them because the characters get revenge.” Her answer reminded us that every child connects with books in their own unique way. She isn’t just reading words on a page; she’s thinking about characters, choices, motives and consequences.

Finding the right book for the right child at the right time can ignite a lifelong love of reading. It is a powerful reminder that every child is a reader waiting for the story that speaks to them.
