The Journey of a Bread Tag: Small Plastic, Big Difference

At HELP, we believe that some of life’s biggest lessons can come from the smallest things.

Our learners are collecting used bread tags as part of an exciting recycling initiative that teaches them about caring for the environment while helping others in need.

Although a bread tag may seem insignificant, it is made from a recyclable plastic called High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS). Once collected, the tags are sent to a non-profit organisation, which delivers them to a recycling company. There, the plastic is transformed into useful new products such as seedling trays, photo frames and other everyday items instead of ending up in landfill.

Most importantly, the proceeds from recycling the bread tags help provide wheelchairs for people with mobility challenges.

Through this project, our learners discover that recycling is about far more than reducing waste. They learn that when a community works together, even the smallest acts of kindness can change someone’s life.

We encourage all our HELP families and friends to keep collecting bread tags. Together, we are protecting our environment, supporting those in need, and showing our learners that every small action has the power to make a big difference.
